Sirmilik National Park

Join us on a visual journey in and around Sirmilik National Park. We will see some of the many diverse birds, stunning landscapes, and vibrant communities in the area. Located at the northwest end of Baffin Island, Sirmilik also borders the ecologically important Tallurutiup Imanga National Marine Conservation Area. In Inuktitut, Sirmilik means ‘place of glaciers’. It is also home to many migratory bird species including large colonies of seabirds like black-legged kittiwakes, thick-billed murres and northern fulmars. These birds nest on large, steep cliffs by the ocean. Inuit in the nearby communities of Pond Inlet and Arctic Bay harvest eggs from murres in the summertime. For generations, Inuit have and continue to live in balance with the land. Both seabirds and Inuit form an important part of the marine and terrestrial ecosystems in the High Arctic.
