Meet the E2C Team across Inuit Nunangat! We have three vibrant and unique communities that comprise our Expedition 2 Community Program. Check out what they have been up to, and stay tuned over the fall and winter to find out how you can recreate some of their amazing projects in your community.
Tony Devlin in Inuvik
Tony has been leading the E2C program in Inuvik for the last year. With his experience as the Executive Director of the Youth Centre in Inuvik, and as owner of Black Fly Studios, Tony has his hand on the pulse of what is happening in Inuvik. This past March Tony supported the youth of the Beaufort Delta in not only hosting a conference – “Our Climate Our Arctic” in March 2020, but in developing their own Climate Declaration that was read aloud at the North West Territories Legislative Assembly Meeting on March 12th 2020.
Stay tuned to our social media channels as we share wonderful facts about Inuvik, and the E2C program there throughout the month of September!
The ‘shack’ in Jim Koe Park in the heart of Inuvik was painted by the kids at the Inuvik Youth Centre in June 2019. The design incorporates the animals and activities of the Beaufort Delta Region and features caribou, narwhals, grizzly bears, drum-dancing and of course the northern lights.
Miranda Atatahak in Kugluktuk
Miranda is the newest E2C Coordinator, having joined the team earlier this year. She is no stranger to working with Students on Ice. She participated in the Turtle Concepts workshop that was facilitated in 2019 by the E2C program in Inuvik, and has already hit the ground running with her own programming which includes a Shoreline Cleanup this summer in Kugluktuk. Stay tuned in the month of October to find out more about how she organized the cleanup, what the most common items were that she and her team found, and what easy steps you could take to organize a shoreline or community cleanup in your community.
April Rideout in Makkovik
April has been leading the seaside community of Makkovik in their E2C initiatives over the past year. With experience as a youth leader in her community she has a great base with which to inspire the youth of Makkovik. With her inaugural painting program that she started in 2019, April is now moving towards Community Inspiration baskets to invite the community of Makkovik to share their visions for the future in a socially distanced fall program. Stay tuned in the month of November for the results of the Community Inspiration Baskets, and learn how you could create a similar project in your community.
